Pho King in Montreal: Pho Tay Ho, the lord of Chicken Pho

One of the old timers of this city, Pho Tay Ho specialized in a type of Pho that typically sucks in restaurant. Pho Ga, chicken Pho. Don't bother with their beef pho, it's not as good as the pork vermicelli (Bun thit nuong) or the pho ga.

I ordered a Vietnamese iced coffee, it was ok. The beans used is Trung Nguyen, a major coffee producer in the region. It was kind of a small portion for the price, also, filter could have been set tighter to concentrate the coffee more.

The Pho came with a bunch of beans sprouts, Thai basil, chilies and lemons.

Broth was murkier than it should be, something which some traditionalist would care about, I don't. Broth can be delicious and murky, like ramen, or boring and clear as hell, like a really weak and tasteless chicken broth. However, the balance required to have both is complex, the attention that you need to give while straining, is painful. While it isn't a perfect broth, it is still passable. Theirs a few chicken innards, hearts, lungs and the likes, a decent combination of both white and brown meat. They used to put a quail egg in it, I thought it was a nice touch, but they stop doing it. Still a pretty good bowl of noodle.
I would return if I am in the neighborhood. Mainly because of the Pork vermicelli.
